American novelist and satirist. Classic adventure literature. Member of the American Philosophical Society.

The famous novelist and satirist Fenimore Cooper was at the forefront of American literature: the author was the discoverer of a new genre. Creativity of the writer, his quotes and aphorisms do not lose relevance.

James Fenimore Cooper was born on September 15, 1789 in the city of Burlington (USA) to the family of Judge William Cooper and Quaker’s daughter Elizabeth Fenimore. James was educated at a local school, also as a child graduate of the University of Ireland studied with him.

The young man did not receive a full higher education, since he was expelled for systematic violation of discipline. This ended Cooper's training in 1806, and the punishment became typical for that time - the young man was sent to the fleet as a sailor. The years spent in the service, became for James not only useful, but also happy. Cooper was promoted to the rank of officer and became a connoisseur of the fleet. Since James was in the construction of a warship on Lake Ontario, in his famous novel "Pathfinder" found descriptions of this area.

The first novel "Precaution" was published in 1820, then "The Spy, or the story of neutral territory" (1821), which had tremendous success not only in America, but also in Europe.

Fenimore Cooper is known for a whole series of novels from American life - “Pioneers, or at the Source of Sasquihanna”, “The Last of the Mohicans”, “Prairie”, “Trail Discoverer, or Pathfinder”, “St. John's Wort, or the First Path of War”. The success of this series of novels was so great that even English critics had to recognize Cooper's talent and called him American Walter Scott.

In 1826, Cooper went to Europe, where he spent seven years. The fruit of this journey was several novels - “Bravo, or Venice”, “Mercedes of Castile, or Journey to Catay,” which takes place in Europe.
